Choosing to pick up swimming is an important decision that can affect how we view the water for the rest of our lives. Do we want water to be something fearful and to be avoided, or with joy and excitement?
We want to be sure that we are getting both quality and value for our limited time and budget.
How does the Friendly Otter Swim School help you with this decision?
Firstly, we are parents too. That means we believe in family-friendly practices and policies. We don’t charge for anything other than actual time in the water. That means no more paying for rainy days or unexpected times you can’t make swim lessons. And we don’t require medical certificates when the child is sick and has to miss a lesson, because we trust our fellow parents.
Secondly, you can rest assured that your coach is of the highest quality. We are part of the National Registry of Coaches (NROC) with Sport Singapore, the government agency regulating sports here. Selection and training of nationally recognised coaches are rigorous, with coaches undergoing months of training with government agencies and affiliated swimming schools.
Only NROC coaches can teach the official national syllabus of Swimsafer 2.0, the one recognised swimming certificate with schools in Singapore. We are also registered Ministry of Education (MOE) instructors, validated to teach for the nation’s primary schools. We are up-to-date with First Aid and AED training, and fully vaccinated and boosted for your child’s safety.
As a NROC coach, we know how to coach children. And children learn best when they feel safe and are in a friendly environment. We practice patience, and break things down simply so children absorb quickly and effectively. Through mastering swimming and lifesaving techniques, we also impart vital values such as thinking ahead, staying safe in dangerous situations, and being able to handle emergencies.
Finally, we believe in the importance of learning to swim. When we can swim, so much more opens up. We can enjoy ourselves at the many beaches and seas surrounding our island and neighbors. Swimming is one of the best exercises available, being low-impact and yet a great workout. And in times of emergencies such as falling off a boat or into a storm drain, swimming allows us to save ourselves as well others.
Swimming is a vital skill that opens up your child’s world immensely. Help them see the water in a joyful light, and not with fear and avoidance.
Friendly Otter can help you get there.
